{"id":15772,"date":"2015-10-27T01:08:22","date_gmt":"2015-10-27T01:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.airportarchives.com\/home\/?p=15772"},"modified":"2025-03-20T15:30:39","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T15:30:39","slug":"kwys-yellowstone-airport","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.airportarchives.com\/home\/uncategorized\/kwys-yellowstone-airport\/","title":{"rendered":"KWYS &#8211; Yellowstone Airport"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.airportarchives.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/image-16.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"296\" height=\"170\" src=\"https:\/\/www.airportarchives.com\/home\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/image-16.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-28016\" style=\"width:331px;height:auto\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n<p>Yellowstone Airport &#8211; located two miles north of West Yellowstone, MT, on Highway 191 &#8211; is owned and operated by the Montana Department of Transportation\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdt.mt.gov\/aviation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aeronautics Division<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Western_Airlines\">Western Airlines<\/a>\u00a0began the first service to West Yellowstone in the late 1930&#8217;s.  Service was seasonal in nature and was not operated during the winter months.  West Yellowstone was served with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Douglas_DC-3\">Douglas DC-3<\/a>&#8216;s and was one of many stops on a route between Los Angeles, California and Great Falls, Montana. Western&#8217;s service was suspended through the 1950&#8217;s and returned in the mid-1960s, again on a seasonal basis but now using\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lockheed_L-188_Electra\">Lockheed L-188 Electra<\/a>\u00a0propjets.
